Abstract: Fusion
categories were intensively studied in the last twenty years in connections
with many fields of mathematics such as representation theory, quantum groups, algebraic
topology, operator algebras, combinatorics and others. Recently, Kenichi
Shimizu introduced a notion of a character associated with each object of a
pivotal fusion category. In this talk we will discuss some aspects of the
character theory of finite groups that can be extended to pivotal fusion
categories. Some of their consequences to the structure of the categories and
their Grothendieck groups will also be presented.
