In April 2000 the Institute of Mathematics "Simion Stoilow" of the Romanian Academy has been elected as a Centre of Excellence in research, through the competition organized under the call ICFP599A1AM03 from August 1999 by the European Comission. Following this election, the Institute of Mathematics "Simion Stoilow" has initiated with the support of the European Commission a 3 years programme entitled:
