Short description
This special session is dedicated to Mathematics of Planet Earth 2013

The topics will focus on mathematical modeling by PDEs of dynamic processes in life and environment and on
their analytical and numerical treatment. Questions that will be addressed include (but are not limited to)
significant and novel problems in population dynamics, epidemics, biomaterials with applications to biology and medicine,
porous media and phase transitions with applications to environmental problems.
The session will bring together mathematicians, specialists in applied mathematical problems, as:
the identification and modeling of physical and biological processes in the domains indicated above,
the study of their well-posedness, parameter identification and inverse problems, control problems and numerical algorithms.
Eventually, an important aspect will be that of comparing the theoretical results with available experimental records and the
conclusions about the reliability and efficiency of the mathematical techniques applied to the real world.
We welcome contributions that fit well with the theme of the session.
The deadline for submissions is March 1st, 2013. The acceptance responses will be sent by April 1st, 2013.
